WILLPOWDERS TEST SHOOT

Learning Through Practice: A Product Photography Test Shoot

I love challenging myself with test shoots to learn new techniques and improve my product photography skills. Recently, I decided to practice with The WillPowders Way Stash Tin, which turned into an interesting exercise in problem-solving and creative thinking.

The Learning Experience

Test shoots are a great way to try new approaches without the pressure of client deadlines. The WillPowders Way Stash Tin caught my eye as an interesting subject - its metallic finish presented some fun challenges for lighting and composition that I wanted to tackle.

The Technical Process

This shoot taught me a lot about problem-solving in product photography. Here's what I tried:

Setting up the shot took quite a bit of trial and error. I experimented with different rigging methods until I found something that worked. The process involved:

- Testing various lighting setups to handle the metallic surface

- Figuring out ways to position the product at interesting angles

- Learning how to manage reflections and shadows

- Lots of adjustments to get things just right

Working Through Post-Production

After the shoot, I spent time in post-production trying different techniques:

- Practicing retouching methods

- Working on color adjustment

- Fine-tuning the highlights and shadows

- Making multiple versions until I was happy with the result

What I Learned

This test shoot reminded me that product photography is an ongoing learning process. Each project, whether it's practice or for a client, teaches something new about lighting, composition, and technical setup.

Growing Through Practice

Test shoots like this one help me explore new ideas and improve my skills. It's amazing how much you can learn just by picking up a product and trying different approaches to photographing it.
